Dr. M. Patrick Lowe recently joined The West Clinic's Division of Gynecologic Oncology from the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine, Division of Gynecologic Oncology, in Los Angeles, where he completed his three-year Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology. During his fellowship, Dr. Lowe received extensive training in minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures and traditional surgical procedures for the management of gynecologic malignancies. As a Research Fellow, Dr. Lowe explored the interaction of the BRCA1 gene and steroid hormone receptors at the Women's Cancer Research Program of the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Lowe earned his Medical Degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and subsequently completed his Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Dr. Lowe's expertise includes advanced minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures for gynecologic oncology patients, some of which are currently being performed at only a few premier medical centers in the United States. He will be the first surgeon in the Mid-South to perform laparoscopic extraperitoneal surgical staging for locally advanced cervical cancer. Dr. Lowe is further interested in fertility-sparing procedures, such as radical vaginal trachelectomy for early stage cervical cancer. Other clinical interests include the development of innovative surgical techniques and chemotherapeutic agents for ovarian, cervical, and endometrial cancers.
A caring and dedicated physician, Dr. Lowe's experience in minimally invasive surgical procedures for endometrial and cervical cancer will facilitate new treatment options for many of The West Clinic's patients. A Junior Fellow with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. Lowe is also a member of numerous prestigious organizations including the American Medical Association and The Society of Gynecologic Oncologists. Furthermore, he is widely published and presents at regional and national meetings.
Originally from Alabama, Dr. Lowe is a devoted family man. He and his wife, Kim, are expecting their first child in August. During his leisure time, Dr. Lowe enjoys amateur landscape photography, water skiing, snow skiing, golf, snowboarding, weight training, and mountain biking.
