The West Clinic Awarded ACR Accreditation
American College of Radiology recognizes West Clinic’s diagnostic imaging services
for outstanding quality

MEMPHIS, TN December 10, 2008 - The West Clinic, one of the nation’s premier centers for oncology, hematology, radiology, and other advanced medical care, has been awarded a three-year accreditation in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI); Positron Emission Tomography/ Computed Tomography (PET/CT); and 64-slice Computed Tomography (CT) as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR). West Clinic Humphreys, Mid-town, and Desoto locations provide diagnostic imaging services comprised of the following: Humphreys-MRI, PET/CT, and CT; Mid-town-CT; and Desoto-CT.

According to Steve Coplon, CEO, “This recognition further validates The West Clinic’s continued commitment to provide the highest quality care to our patients. ACR awards only those facilities that meet the highest practice standards.” Earlier this year, The West Clinic was named best clinical practice in America as Hematology & Oncology News & Issues (HONI) introduced the first recipients of the HOPE™ (Hematology & Oncology Practice Excellence) initiative in its February 15th issue.

The ACR headquartered in Reston, VA, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of its practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance program. The surveyors report their finding to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.

“The availability of multiple modalities of high quality, accredited radiology services offered by The West Clinic enables us to provide full-service, multi-disciplinary care and the best treatment decisions for our patients,” stated West Clinic radiologist, Dr. Tom Hodgkiss.  “The West Clinic has a long history of being a developer and early adopter of ‘best practices,’ clinical pathways, and the effective use of advanced technologies for our patients.”

West Clinic senior partner, Dr. Kurt Tauer added, ”Twenty years ago, The West Clinic pioneered the deployment of advanced diagnostic radiology services in the community oncology setting through its addition of CT scanning and an in-house radiologist.  With a full suite of advanced diagnostic and interventional radiology services and the inclusion of 4 board certified radiologists as part of the clinic, The West Clinic continues to set the pace for advanced multi-disciplinary care that others across the nation are seeking to emulate.”
