West Clinic Opens New Somerville Clinic
(Drs. Johnetta Blakely and Michael Martin to Provide State-of-the-Art Cancer Care in Fayette County)

MEMPHIS, TN – July 27, 2009 The West Clinic is pleased to announce the opening of their newest satellite office in Somerville, TN on August 13, 2009. Johnetta Blakely, MD, and Michael Martin, MD, Medical Oncologists, will treat patients at the new clinic located at 201 Lakeview. As the Mid-South’s leader in cancer care, The West Clinic will offer patients in Fayette County and beyond the highest quality cancer care in their home community. The new clinic will provide laboratory services as well as chemotherapy in a compassionate and comfortable environment.

“Dr. Martin and I are excited about the new Somerville clinic opening. The West Clinic has treated patients from Fayette County for many years, and our new facility further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the patients and medical community here,” states Dr. Blakely.

Johnetta Blakely, M.D.

Dr. Johnetta Blakely is a nationally-respected medical oncology specialist, who joined The West Clinic in July, 2004. Board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, Dr. Blakely is licensed to practice medicine in Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. After receiving her Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee Medical School, she went on to complete her Fellowship in Medical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where she spent three years training.

With a passion for research, Dr. Blakely plays an important role in The West Clinic’s research efforts. She is well-published in peer-reviewed publications and presents at national meetings on cancer-related issues. Dr. Blakely is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Hematology, the Connective Tissue Oncology Society, The American Medical Association, The Memphis Medical Society and the Herb Fred Medical Society. She also serves as a board member of the American Cancer Society and Wings Cancer Foundation.

Mike G. Martin, M.D.

The West Clinic is pleased to welcome Mike G. Martin, MD, to its team of Medical Oncologists. A native Memphian, Dr. Martin received his medical degree with highest honors from the University of Tennessee, College of Medicine. He went on to complete his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Duke University Medical Center and his Medical Oncology Fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO.

Board Certified in Internal Medicine and board eligible in Medical Oncology, Dr. Martin has co-authored numerous articles on acute and chronic leukemia, lymphoma, lung, and esophageal cancer in peer-reviewed journals. He has also authored book chapters on melanoma, leukemia, the myelodysplastic syndromes, the myeloproliferative disorders, and the correct uses and complications of chemotherapy. He has presented at national meetings on palliative care and a myelodysplastic syndrome, served on the Genzyme Leukemia Advisory Board, and is an active member of the American Society of Hematology and American Society of Clinical Oncology.
