The West Clinic is pleased to welcome Arun R. Rao, MD, to its team of Medical Oncology and Hematology specialists. Before joining The West Clinic, Dr. Rao served on the staff of Cancer Care Centers of South Texas in San Antonio. Board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and Hematology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he has extensive expertise in cancer treatment as well as the treatment of blood disorders.

Dr. Rao earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree at Grant Medical College in Mumbai, India. In 1992, he moved to the United States to pursue a Residency in Internal Medicine at Wayne State University of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. Upon completion, he served on the staff of UCI Medical Affiliates in Columbia, SC and Anderson Area Medical Center in Anderson, South Carolina. While in private practice, he became very interested in caring for cancer patients and pursued a Fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Upon completion of his first year clinical Fellowship, he pursued basic science research during his subsequent second and third years as a Fellow. Dr. Rao served on the academic staff of the University of Texas as a clinical instructor for two years and was actively involved in teaching fellows and residents.

Dr. Rao has a broad interest in all cancer types. He is particularly interested in lung and colon cancers, lymphoma, and clinical trials.

Mounce, CEO of The West Clinic and SVP of the Methodist Cancer Service Line. “This further underscores our commitment to expand the expertise of The West Clinic in collaboration with our partners at Methodist North and South Hospitals.”

His wife is an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee Methodist Le Bonheur where she pursues her interests as a neuroscientist. They have two children who attend school in the Germantown area.

According to Dr. Rao, “I am very excited to be a part of The West Clinic and to be going to Methodist South to provide cancer care closer to the community there.”

Effective July 30, 2013 Dr. Rao will see patients on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at The West Clinic, located in the Wound Care Center at 1251 Wesley, Suite 107 Memphis, TN 38116
