Dr. Benton Wheeler has been a member of the West Clinic team since 1993. He is board certified in Oncology and holds medical licenses in Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Indiana.

Dr. Wheeler received his Medical Degree from the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, after graduating with honors in chemistry from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Indiana University Medical Center (IUMC). He chose to continue his work at IUMC and accepted a Fellowship in Hematology-Oncology.

Dr. Wheeler is very active in the Memphis medical and community at large. He has served as the past president of the Tennessee Oncology Practice Society and is active with that organization on a national level. He now serves on the TOPS board and volunteers at The Church Health Center. He sits on the board of Grace St. Lukes Episcopal School, the Memphis Chamber Music Society, as well as a committee at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.  Dr. Wheeler also serves as Co-chair of wine auction events and the Memphis Brooks Museum.

Dr. Wheeler sees patients in our Southaven and Memphis offices. Cancer patients have taught Dr. Wheeler that “life is too short and you need to live now.” In turn, he helps his patients understand that unlike a heart attack or stroke that can occur without warning, cancer can provide patients and families some real life time for closeness and reflection. Along with that opportunity come treatment advances that offer great relief and hope.

Dr. Wheeler is married and has two children that occupy much of his spare time. He enjoyed serving as a Cub Scout Leader. A former guitar player, he now focuses his musical talent on the piano. He is a serious photographer and enjoys the title of “The West Clinic’s Unofficial Photographer.”
