Dr. Reed received his Bachelor of Science degree with Suma Cum Laude honors from the University of Memphis and attended medical school at the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences in Memphis. During medical school, he received a scholarship with the United States Navy and completed his residency and fellowship within the military. He completed internship and residency at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth Virginia and served two years with the Marine Corps in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He completed his fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, National Naval Medical Center, and National Institutes of Health in Washington D.C. After completing his military commitment at Walter Reed, he joined the private sector. Initially, he joined a cancer center in Charlotte, N.C. but when an opening developed in Memphis, he joined the West Clinic in 2001.
Dr. Reed treats patients in our Memphis and Corinth offices. Dr. Reed is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. His specialty treats cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar malignancies. Additionally, he treats women referred by their gynecologist with pre-invasive conditions such as cervical, vaginal, and vulvar dysplasia along with severe endometriosis. Dr. Reed is also one of a select group of surgeons in the country performing robotic surgery for gynecologic procedures and a founding member of the Memphis Robotic Surgery Society. Recently, with the addition of doctors Tillmanns and Santoso who teach at the University of Tennessee, Dr Reed has had the opportunity to rekindle his dream of teaching residents in training. In 2007, Dr Reed was awarded the highest honor from the residents at the University of Tennessee by awarding him with the “Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award”. Although his field of medicine is highly specialized, his primary goal is to assure that his patients receive personalized and compassionate care. The West Clinic partners with the Accelerated Community Oncology Network (ACORN) and Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) to offer promising clinical trials. Dr. Reed’s belief is treatment at The West Clinic exceeds what is available at large impersonal university based cancer centers.
No topic is taboo as he seeks to help his patients find healing through peace of mind. Accommodating each patient’s specific needs and concerns is a dynamic process. He views his work a calling and it shows in the way he treats every patient.
Dr Reed and his wife Melanie are native Memphians. They have 3 sons and when time allows they enjoy golfing or water sports in the Pickwick community. He is an avid University of Memphis Tiger Basketball fan and tries to never miss a game.
