He chose to serve his country in the US Air Force while completing his Internal Medicine Residency along with his Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in Lackland AFB. His advanced training also included serving as a visiting physician in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. Dr. Johnson is Board Certified in Hematology, Medical Oncology, and Internal Medicine. He currently serves as the Program Director Methodist Healthcare Blood and Marrow Transplant Center.
Dr. Johnson sees patients in our Humphreys and Brighton locations. Known for his caring, gentle manner, Dr. Johnson always takes time to listen to his patients’ concerns. He welcomes questions and always provides words of hope and encouragement. A teacher by temperament, he urges his patients to “please ask when you don’t understand what is happening or what the plan is.” He firmly believes that “it is the doctor’s responsibility to explain things until you are satisfied.”
Dr. Johnson is also a strong advocate of support services for patients and has participated in many area events for cancer survivors. His dedication to his profession also includes participating in medical missions and international teaching to physicians in medically underserved areas.
His nurturing nature continues outside of West Clinic — both with his dedication to his family and his meticulous attention to his garden.
